Kayla Ng, Waterloo Physiotherapist
Kayla began her post-secondary education at the University of Waterloo, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Honours Kinesiology in 2012 and continued her education at McMaster University, where she completed her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy in 2015.
During her University days Kayla was a member of the varsity women’s volleyball team for 4 years at Waterloo and played 1 year for McMaster with whom she won an OUA Championship. During the summers, Kayla competed on the sand, training and traveling around Canada, the U.S. and represented Canada at the 2012 FISU Games in Maceio, Brazil. Although Kayla is no longer playing, she is still involved with volleyball through coaching with the Cambridge Scorpions. Recently, Kayla has traded in her court shoes for running shoes and has been enjoying her training and experience on the road, track, and trail!
Kayla has had the opportunity to explore a range orthopaedic care throughout her rehabilitation cycle during her PT education. She has experience in treating inpatients on the acute orthopaedic trauma floor (i.e. rehabbing patients in serious motor vehicle accidents), post-surgical patients (i.e. rehabbing patients post- knee replacement), as well as outpatients in the clinical setting. One of her most memorable clinical placements throughout her education was at the Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, Ireland. She gained valuable experience collaborating with other physiotherapy students and physiotherapists in Ireland, and learning different approaches, techniques, and methods of practice.
Since graduating, Kayla has continued her education to further her orthopaedic skills through manual therapy and acupuncture courses. She is also an executive member of the Ontario Division of Sport Physiotherapy Canada. Clinically, Kayla uses a combination of manual therapy skills, acupuncture, exercise prescription and education to help create individualized evidence-based treatment programs to assist her patients in regaining and improving their everyday function.
